  1. My new favorite is Billy Collins. I didn't realize how much I like poetry until I read his recently. Great list!

  2. I always like Edgar Allen Poe. I don't think it's because they were great poems, though, just because they were spooky. :-)

    My T13 is up!

  3. Thanks for the comments!

I've never read Billy Collins. Is he very modern?

Poe is spooky! I love his story: "The Masque of the Red Death." I got to teach it one time when I was subbing.

  4. I love Yeats and Tennyson. I'd probably say they're my favorites. Well, of the classics at least.

  5. some impressive list here! Love them all. I think we'll have a hard time keeping that good poetry up runnning in the future sadly enough :-)

  9. You've got some amazing people on your list. I'd add William Carlos Williams, he's my favorite. Writes really simple yet vivid poems. My favorite is "The Red Wheelbarrow."

  10. Thank you all for the comments! I enjoy reading about which poets other people like.

Nice to "meet" some other people who like poetry (or not)! :) I do love both the Brownings too. Goodness, so many good poets, so little space!

Dr. Suess and Shel Silverstein are great too. :)

And I really like William Carlos Williams' "This is Just to Say" and "The Red Wheelbarrow."

  15. I LOVE poetry! I haven't heard of Christina Rosseti, will Google her now. ;)

  16. I've never heard of Richard Brautigan either. Robert Frost is wonderful. In second grade, my teacher, Mrs. Gilchrist, had us memorize "Stopping By the Woods on a Snowy Day." :)

If you haven't read any of these poets (or even if you have), I hope you find something to enjoy!

I love poetry, but I don't read it too often. When I do pick it up, I always remember just how much I love it and read more!

Christina Rossetti and her brother Dante Gabriel Rossetti are very interesting people. Dante also painted exquisite Pre-Raphaelite pieces.

Thank you for all the lovely comments! This is wonderful! :)

  17. Wow. I wish I was cultured enough to have a FAVORITE poet. I sure studied them enough in college! LOL

I think my favorite was ee cummings. I loved how he ignored grammatical rules to that his poems were as visual as they were..lyrical. Isn't that ironic, though, 'cause I HATE bad grammar/spelling!

    Nice list!

  18. Isn't this sad; I can't think of a single poet that I like. Um, can I say my 9 yr old son?? :-)

  19. What a great list. They are all some of my favorites as well, but the infamous Danielle Willis is still my favorite poet.

  20. Some great poets on that list. Especially #13 :)

  21. I've always loved William Shakespeare's sonnets. I didn't know Emily Bronte wrote poems too! Around our house Dr. Seuss and Shel Silverstein reign supreme!Hope you had a great Thursday!

  22. Such wonderful poets. I like Dylan Thomas, William Blake, Elizabeth Barrett Browning and I like Thoreau.

In high school, we called his poetry "Thoreau Up" because we just didn't get it. Now I do, and like it very much.

I love poetry, and "bore" my children with it frequently. ;op

    Thanks for visiting my T13.

  24. Don't get much time over here to read anything but we did do most of these poets in school. I used to like Wordsworth best.

  28. Good list - lots of wonderful poets there. I like many of the ones you've listed. I'm also a bit of a Wordsworth fan - his poem 'Characteristics of a Child Three Years Old' is my favourite non-romantic poem ever.
    "...solitude to her
Is blithe society, who fills the air
    With gladness and involuntary songs."
    Wonderful stuff.
