New Jane Austen Contest!

In honor of the beginning of PBS' The Complete Jane Austen Season, I thought I would have a little JA Contest!

The prize is a copy of the 1995 Sense & Sensibility starring Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet (not a PBS version!) and some loose leaf English Evening tea, and possibly some other little things. (I'll post a picture in the next few days).

Here are the rules:
  • Write a comment on this post by 9pm pst Monday, 21 January 2008.
  • Your comment can be about anything related to Jane Austen.
  • I will randomly pick a name out of my blue English teapot Monday night and post the winner.
That's it! Good luck!

I look forward to hearing YOUR opinion of tonight's showing of "Persuasion". Personally, I found it delightful...and I just love Bath. My biggest surprise (and happiness) was seeing Tony Head as her father. What a wonderful surprise for me! (He & I were friends once upon a time back when I lived in England.)

I feel the need to comment on "Persuasion." I am not sure how to put this delicately - without it coming off as an insult to my family - but I felt somehow Jane Austen was referring to my family when she wrote (describing when the Miss Musgroves were to take a walk and invited Mary) "Anne felt persuaded, by the looks of the two girls, that it was precisely what they did not wish, and admired again the sort of necessity which the family habits seemed to produce, of every thing being to be communicated and every thing being to be done together, however undesired and inconvenient."
Lizzie - now can i be in the teapot?

I found your site kind of accidentally and am SO glad I did because I didn't know about the PBS Masterpiece series! Anyway, Jane Austen is one of my favorite authors; I could (and have) read her books over and over again. Unlike most people, Emma is my favorite! :-)

I have just recently discovered Jane Austen, and all I can say is where has she been all my life. I have read Pride and Prejudice, Persuasion and Northanger Abbey since the first of the year. I am thrilled to be so many bogger devoted to Jane.

I first discovered about Jane Austen's novels when my friend lend me her copy of Pride & Prejudice about 9 years ago. I find that Pride & Prejudice is the best novel that I have ever read until I finished reading Persuasion last year. So, now Persuasion and Pride & Prejudice are my favourite novels which is followed by Emma and I can't seem to finish reading Mansfield Park. I think I'm a Jane Austen addict now with so many film adaptations based on her novels.

I'm looking forward to "Northanger," tonight! My daughter's enthusiasm for Jane has been humorously enjoyed for years (We even went to the Jane Austen Center in Bath!) yet I'd never caught on to the fun of it all until we went to a "Persuasion" lecture a few weeks ago. I sat in the audience reading a super-condensed "Persuasion" while the talk went on...and came home and read "Northanger," and there was all of that satire and I GOT IT! Next up: I try--with refreshed sensibilities--to read "Pride and Prejudice"!

I absolutely adore Jane Austen and her wonderful novels! I've been enjoying the PBS series, and esp. look forward to Pride and Prejudice, and wonderful Colin Firth as beloved Mr. Darcy.
