Thirteen Things: BOOKS I HAVE AT THE LAKE

Anyone who knows me knows that I LOVE to read. I have books all over, in stacks and piles, and my bookshelves are two books deep. I will never have or read enough books. So, it is only right and necessary that I have books at the lake, as well (rest assured that I have at least one copy of each of these books at home!). I bought copies, some used, some new, especially for the lake. As much as it goes against the grain, I am trying not to worry if they get a bit of water or dirt or sunscreen on them (very tough not to think about it, but I am trying!).

So, I present my list of books I have at the lake (Oh, I also have lots of little romances, but I'm not counting or listing them!):

I love the Lord of the Rings and Tolkien books and movies. So brilliant. For some reason I haven't bought the 2nd of trilogy, but I plan to.

1. Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R. Tolkien

2. Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King by J.R.R. Tolkien

3. The Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien

4. Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte: I absolutely love this book and read it every October, because the month seems to fit the mood of the book. Beautiful.

5. The Marrying Kind by Cynthia Rutledge: This is a little Christian romance that I absolutely love. Great story and characters!

6. A Walk to Remember by Nicholas Sparks: I absolutely love this book and cry every time I read it. The movie is different, but beautiful, as well.

7. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte: I first read this in high school and wrote my senior English thesis paper on Jane. Brilliant novel.

8. William Shakespeare-Complete Sonnets: A collection isn't complete without some Shakespeare! I do love the Bard! Especially his sonnets.

9.Emma by Jane Austen: Jane Austen is my favorite author of all time and I love all of her books.

10. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen: This is my absolute favorite novel of all time. I adore it and have read two times already this year. Mr. Darcy: need I say more?

I love J.K.Rowling's Harry Potter series and have books 1-6 at the lake. As I only have space left for three, I'm going to double them up.

11. Year 1: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone ;
Year 2: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

12. Year 3: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban;
Year 4: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

13. Year 5: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix; I think OotP is my favorite of the first six (book seven is coming out sometime in the next few years). It is the longest so far, and the heaviest. I once dropped the paperback copy on my nose. Luckily, I didn't break it.
Year 6: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

What books would you read at the lake or on vacation?

Great list of books that can be read and reread. But... enquiring minds want to know what the "little romances" are now! Thanks for visiting my T13.

I'd love to read A Walk to Remember. I've read the Harry Potter books with my husband and children; I'd love to read Lord of the Rings; my husband has the BIG hardback trilogy; when the little one is a little older I want to read that. We've read The Hobbit to my oldest; I love the hardback cover with the illustrations. Gonna have to reread it to the little one soon. :) I'd love to read Wuthering Heights too! You are gonna have a blast!!! :)

My goodness! I wrote a huge comment in response, but it has some howe disappeared!

Thanks for all the great comments! You're all invited to the lake with me! I love hearing about what other people like to read, as I love reading and books so much! And it appears we all have a lot in common!

My requirement for a purse is that I can fit a book in it!

DivaP, the little romances are ones I bought at the library book sale about 2 years ago. They are little Harlequin romances, etc. Very quick reads when I want something light. :) I love historical romance, especially.

I haven't read Mr. Darcy Takes A Wife, though I have heard of it. I don't think I can read any books like that (meaning non-Austen written Austen sequels) because I love the characters so much! :) I have read some of Stephanie Barron's Jane Austen mysteries, which are very interesting.

Thanks for all the great comments! And, thanks for visiting! :)

Happy Reading!

I can never understand how some people only like to read a book once! I always gain so much more after repeat readings.

I never thought I would read the Harry Potter books, though everyone told me I would love them. They just didn't seem to fit into my categories! :) Fortunately, my aunt bought me the first two for Christmas a few years ago and I was hooked! I have since hooked my friend and her mother, my mother, my sister, and, hopefully, more people! If you have read HP, I am interested to know what you think will happen in book 7!

The classics, especially Jane Austen, are the greatest! I am delighted to hear from other people who love them too!

How lovely to talk about books! I miss doing so since graduating from college! :) Thank you all and Happy Reading!

RYQ: The list of where I've lived doesn't end at 13. It's pretty amazing when you consider that all of the places except 2 were lived in after I was 18.

It's very difficult to pick a favorite, probably because they were all so different. But if I could only pick one, I'd have to say Sweden. It's an incredibly beautiful and peaceful place.

Thank you so much for your list. I've been home on disability this summer and you reminded me that I didn't read the last two Harry Potter books. Guess what I'll be starting today? You've got a great list, I've read the others and they are all captivating and refreshing. Good Job!

Toodles, Maryanne

Goodness, Alyx! I've only lived in one place all my life! :) It must be wonderful to have so many great experiences!

I like Christian novels, but I don't think I have read any of Beverly Lewis'.

Oh, so lovely to hear this list inspired someone to read one of the books! You must come back and tell me how you liked the books! :)

Thanks for the lovely comments!

What a lovely reading list -- and a couple of new "gems" for me to check out. Jane Austen is my favorite author of all time, too. And I love Lord of the Rings as well, both the books and the movies.

Glad I stumbled across your blog!

Thanks!

Jane Austen is the greatest. Every time I re-read her books I am amazed anew at how excellent they are. I always forget all the little nuances and the great lines. I hope to visit her house some day.

Great list! I adore Jane Austen. I've read several of the books in your list, but there are a few I might have to pick up sometime.

Sorry I'm running late on this. Still getting used to the T13. Thanks for commenting on my first last week!

I'd take Usuala leguin's earthsea trilogy. Kind of like a shorter, female-center lord of the rings.
